Ideally, each parish, organization,
and campus, where possible, should identify a young adult team and/or a contact
person. The team is the direct link between the Church and the local young adult community. The team advocates
for the needs of young adults and works with someone on the
staff as a point of reference. The team can also plan and implement
activities and programs directed to the young adult community. The team
should be given adequate training and be willing to collaborate with those
responsible for the various ministries of the community. Young adult
leaders may wish to identify one contact person as a liaison with the diocese
and other young adult efforts. When starting a Young Adult
Ministry incorporate the:
7 Elements of Comprehensive Young Adult Ministry:
- Evangelization
- Community Life
- Catechesis
- Justice and Service
- Liturgy and the Sacraments
- Leadership Formation
- Prayer and Spirituality
In order for your newly formed Young Adult Ministry to thrive you must:
- Know the needs of the young adults in your parish.
- Offer opportunities of fellowship and community without neglecting spiritual enrichment.
- Allow other young adults to share with you their interests and what they would like to see happening within their YA community.
- Communicate with other thriving YAM's and share ideas that will implement growth.
